Coiled Rings
Inspired by the construction method of the American Shaker boxes, the coiled rings are made from a flat strip of silver or gold which is coiled like a clock spring with the end riveted to the other layers to hold the whole structure together. The entire strip is tapered over its length which, when formed into a coil, gives the finished ring delicately layered edges.
Stones:
Cabochon cut stones are set under the top most layer. Faceted stones up to a limited size can also be set onto the surface as in the last example which was a commission for Nicola. This ring was set with antique-cut diamonds and sapphires together with an aqua marine.
